The establishment of the Museum owes much to the generous support of many local citizens.<br \/>\r\nIt was renamed the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art after World War II.As Japan\u2019s oldest public art museum that is housed in its original architecture, its classical visage standing against the backdrop of Higashiyama has been highly appreciated for 85 years.<br \/>\r\nThe innovative concepts of two leading Japanese architects, Aoki Jun and Nishizawa Tezzo, for the Museum renewal project introduced new designs while preserving original elements, thus allowing for a fusion of old and new to create a fresh image for the Museum.<br \/>\r\nWe invite you to enjoy the new Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u533a\u5207\u308a -->\r\n<hr class=\"hrs\">\r\n<h2 class=\"sub_heading pt40\">HISTORY<\/h2>\r\n<!-- \u4e2d\u898b\u51fa\u3057 -->\r\n<div class=\"hl_3\">\r\n<h4 class=\"ja\">HISTORY 1933-2015<\/h4>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1933<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>Kyoto Enthronement Memorial Museum of Art opens. The two-storey Imperial Crown Style steel-framed reinforced concrete structure was built with support from Kansai business and art sectors, and Kyoto citizens to commemorate the 1928 enthronement ceremonies. The Museum design was by architect Maeda Kenjiro who gained the commission through open competition calling for \u201ca basic Japonica style of architecture around the entire periphery.\u201d The inaugural exhibition was the 14th Teiten Exhibition organized by the Imperial Fine Art Academy.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\">\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sandbox.kyotocity-kyocera.museum\/wp-content\/themes\/kyotocity_kyocera_museum\/assets\/images\/greeting\/1933.jpg\" alt=\"1933\"><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1934<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>The <em>Kyoto Enthronement Memorial Museum of Art Exhibition<\/em>, with many works donated by the Committee for the Celebration of the Enthronement.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1935<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>The 1st <em>Art Exhibition (Shiten,)<\/em> sponsored by the city of Kyoto and organized through open submissions of the general public.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\">\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sandbox.kyotocity-kyocera.museum\/wp-content\/themes\/kyotocity_kyocera_museum\/assets\/images\/greeting\/1935.jpg\" alt=\"1935\"><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1944<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>Museum activities continue, despite conditions of World War \u2161. After direct air raids to Japan, some of the Museum collection is evacuated to Daikaku-ji Temple and other places on the outskirts of Kyoto. \r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1945<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>The war ends during the 9th <em>Exhibition of Works by Local Artists and the Permanent Collection<\/em>. \r\nThe 1st <em>Kyoto Municipal Art Exhibition (Kyoten)<\/em> is held shortly after the end of the war.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1946<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>Occupation forces requisition the Museum site, including the main building; the large exhibition hall is used as a basketball court.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_3\">\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sandbox.kyotocity-kyocera.museum\/wp-content\/themes\/kyotocity_kyocera_museum\/assets\/images\/greeting\/1946.jpg\" alt=\"1946\"><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<div class=\"col_1\">\r\n<p>1952<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"col_2\">\r\n<p>The Museum is derequisitioned, renamed as \u201cKyoto Municipal Museum of Art\u201d resumes activities. Kyoto city decided to offer Museum naming rights in order to defray the financial burden of residents for the long-awaited renewal and also to ensure the success of the Museum\u2019s renewal project. In this spirit, Kyocera Corporation agreed to a commitment of approximately 5 billion yen for a 50-year naming rights agreement to name the museum the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. \r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"logo_1\">\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sandbox.kyotocity-kyocera.museum\/wp-content\/themes\/kyotocity_kyocera_museum\/assets\/images\/greeting\/logo.png\" alt=\"\u4eac\u90fd\u5e02\u4eac\u30bb\u30e9\u7f8e\u8853\u9928\"><\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"logoConcept\">\r\n<h3 class=\"ja\"> Logo Design Concept<\/h3>\r\n<p>\r\nSugisaki Shinnosuke, a Kansai based internationally active graphic designer, created the logo design. The use of modern style Japanese and English typography impressively underscores the sense of Kyoto as an international city while the logo\u2019s understated simplicity conveys the Museum\u2019s dignity.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30dc\u30fc\u30c0\u30fc -->\r\n<div class=\"border\">\r\n<!-- \u4e2d\u898b\u51fa\u3057 -->\r\n<div class=\"hl_3\">\r\n<h3 class=\"ja\">The Kyocera Corporation<\/h3>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<!-- \u30ab\u30e9\u30e0 -->\r\n<div class=\"cols\">\r\n<!-- \u672c\u6587 -->\r\n<div class=\"text col_1\">\r\n<p>Since its establishment, the Kyocera Corporation has been conscious of its responsibility as a member of society.
