Alongside his own theater pieces and installations, Araki is a member of the documentation group ARCHIVES PAY and the music group NEW MANUKE. “Making sound starts from listening to sound,” he says. In this way, his work has continued to emphasize the creativity of the listening environment, rather than the act of creating sound itself. This exhibition similarly focuses on “making a place for listening,” with Araki harnessing the unique architectural features of the museum to create a space as a device for playing sound. The timbre of the recorded sound, the reverberation that occurs in the gallery when the sound is played, and the acoustic changes caused by the physical movements of the viewers all produce infinite layers of resonance and rebound, from which appears intangible sound.

About “The Triangle”
“The Triangle” is a space that is newly created on the occasion of the renewal opening of the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art.
