Digital technologies have opened up new expressive possibilities for the artist, including floating lines and color fields, yet also endowed his painting with a totally new sensation; one likened by Kimura to the difficulty of moving through water, hence the title of this exhibition. Such physical and visual sensations peculiar to the times are the product of today’s overlapping of digital and analog. What impact does this have on the painter personally? What Kimura explores could be described as a new model for painting to accompany this development.
Including Kimura’s latest output, Virtually Unswimming will be composed of two-dimensional canvases, three-dimensional VR, and works somewhere in between using clear glass windows (the ground-level section of The Triangle) as supports. Set in three different types of space, the works will be interconnected, at the same time individually offering the viewer glimpses into an entirely new realm of painting. As you view Kimura’s works, take special note of the artist’s movements and sense of color, etched on his lines and color fields.

About “The Triangle”
“The Triangle” is a space that is newly created on the occasion of the renewal opening of the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art. In order to connect the “artist, museum and viewer” in a triangle and deepen their connection, we will use this space to host a series of special exhibitions bearing the name “The Triangle” as we set out to present new artistic creations from Kyoto.

["post-11605","exhibition","type-exhibition","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","en-US
["GET
